Especially in the warmer months of the year, the deck makes a great outdoor living space for friends and family to gather. The challenge individuals run into is when the colder months roll around enjoying this space becomes more difficult. Fortunately there are a number of ways for people to make use of their deck throughout the year, and in addition maintain more living space throughout the year.

Depending on how one’s deck is currently structured, there are currently a number of decking designs including the addition screened panels and a roof can be adding relatively inexpensively. These screens can then be installed and removed throughout the year as the weather changes. In addition, although it may cost a bit more, panels may be installed housing windows to ensure more protection from the elements should one desire. There are hundreds of decking designs geared towards this type of usage out there from which one may choose.

Another option to consider when maintaining more of a year-round utility of their deck would be insulating the floor of the desk itself. Placing wrapped insulation in between the support joists and sealing it underneath will ensure a warmer decking floor in the cooler months, while being completely out of site as not to take away from the aesthetics of the structure.

A third option, which is geared more towards utility, is the use of composite decking or decking tiles. These two options are built to withstand the elements of the seasons without necessarily requiring the annual maintenance. If leaving the deck unstructured, these two options are great for those who may not have the time to provide their decks with routine maintenance.

Finally the use of gas-powered space heaters are another way to enjoy one’s deck in the cooler months of the year while not adding additional structure to an existing deck. These heaters generally run off of propane heaters, and provide a wide radius of heat for guests to sit around in the fall and winter months. They are similar to a fire pit, only safe for a deck.
